Hospital stay inspires young patient's unique donation

07 Nov 2025

A student who spent eight days in SCUH earlier this year has returned to the hospital to make a novel gift to Wishlist to say thank you for the support she received during her stay.

Zali and her Year 3 classmates at Tewantin State School have spent three mornings a week knitting beanies for young hospital patients, which were recently handed over to Wishlist.

During her recovery from a ruptured appendix, Zali was visited by the Wishlist Therapy Dogs, Clown Doctors, and her favourite, Stacey the Calm Fairy.

“The calm fairy reminded me of my aunty which made me feel nice, and the dogs also helped me along the way,” Zali said.

"Stacey and I made bracelets together before I had to go into my second surgery."

Zali’s mum, Kiri, added that Stacey the Calm Fairy made a huge difference to her mood.

Local volunteer Coral Sharp not only taught the kids how to knit, but also the importance of caring for their community.

A big thank you to Coral, Zali and all her classmates.
