This year’s Southern Cross Sheds Diamond Lunch will be more important than ever following the news the 92.7 MIX FM Give Me 5 fundraiser for Wishlist to help save newborns kids on the Coast.
Proceeds will go towards the purchase of two Arctic Sun Cooling Devices which help babies who develop hypoxic-ischaemic encephalopathy (HIE) due to lack of oxygen during birth.
If left untreated, HIE can result in life-long consequences, including damage to the brain and disabilities such as cerebral palsy.
To improve long-term survival and reduce the incidence and severity of disability, it is best practice for babies with moderate or severe HIE to receive cooling therapy.
Helping babies like Lily and Scarlett
Our friends at Perth Children’s Hospital Foundation have kindly shared the story of their patient Jenny whose daughters Lily and Scarlett were treated with a similar cooling mat.
Jenny’s daughters required treatment after both experienced distress and lack of oxygen during the final stages of pregnancy and delivery.
Jenny is thankful her children were given the cooling therapy they needed to grow up healthy and happy.
“Lilly absolutely loves riding motorbikes, loves school and is doing really well,” Jenny said.
“Scarlett is as cheeky as ever and absolutely loves riding her quad bike. I honestly can’t believe she’ll be starting school next year, where has the time gone!”
