Reed Charity House

reed charity house was built in 2009 as an emergency medical accomodation service for patients of nambour general hospital and their families.

The 20 room, state-of-the-art facility provides comfortable, modern and low cost accomodation for carers, family members and patients requiring ongoing medical treatment at the Nambour Hospital.

The home provides a way for families to remain close to their loved ones during a time of illness or injury when they are most in need of encouragement and support.

Built by generous contractors and local construction company, RCQ, and operated 24 hours a day by Australian Red Cross volunteers, the impressive facility is a true collaboration of the Reed Charity Foundation, Wishlist, the Australian Red Cross, local Rotary Clubs and the wider community.

The home spans three storeys with four separate wings each containing its own kitchen, lounge, dining and bathroom facilities.  Families, self-caring patients and those with disabilities are accommodated for with lift access, self contained special needs rooms, laundry facilities, bed linen and towels, ample on site parking and a playground for the little ones.

Prices for Reed Charity House start at $60 a night for one person and if you pay for 6 nights you get the 7th night free.

Children under 18 stay free when staying in the same room as a fee paying adult. If an additional room is required, charges will incur.

Patients who live outside a 50km radius of Nambour Hospital are eligible for a subsidy to assist with the cost of travel.

In 2012 after 3 years of fundraising, the Wishlist Sky Bridge (now officially named the Doug Biggs Memorial Sky Bridge) was finished which has connected the home directly to the back of the hospital thereby eliminating the danger and impracticality of the steep climb and significantly improving access for frail, disabled, elderly and wheelchair-bound patients.
