The 20 room, state-of-the-art facility provides comfortable, modern and low cost accomodation for carers, family members and patients requiring ongoing medical treatment at the Nambour Hospital.
The home provides a way for families to remain close to their loved ones during a time of illness or injury when they are most in need of encouragement and support.
Built by generous contractors and local construction company, RCQ, and operated 24 hours a day by Australian Red Cross volunteers, the impressive facility is a true collaboration of the Reed Charity Foundation, Wishlist, the Australian Red Cross, local Rotary Clubs and the wider community.![]()
The home spans three storeys with four separate wings each containing its own kitchen, lounge, dining and bathroom facilities. Families, self-caring patients and those with disabilities are accommodated for with lift access, self contained special needs rooms, laundry facilities, bed linen and towels, ample on site parking and a playground for the little ones.
The priority now is building a bridge which will connect the home directly to the back of the hospital thereby eliminating the danger and impracticality of the steep climb.
Reed Charity House opened for business on the 6th April, 2009, and is an outstanding example of what can be achieved by a proactive and generous community.
