Mental Health and Addiction Services Clinical Nurse Consultant Jayne MacLachlan was awarded the annual Mike Kelly Academic Scholarship for 2016.

Ms MacLachlan is undertaking her Masters in Nurse Practitioner studies, giving the employee the opportunity to further her education.

"I am very grateful for being awarded the Mike Kelly scholarship," she said.

"Completing a degree is an expensive venture which I thought was out of my reach. With a growing family and a never ending stream of bills coming in, the expenses involved in studying was not high on the financial priority list - just the wish list.

"Some of my work colleagues encouraged me to apply for the Mike Kelly scholarship to further my education. The process of applying gave me the opportunity to reflect on what my future goals were and why I wanted to study.

"Studying has been a very steep learning curve at times for me and has pushed me out of my comfort zone on many occasions. It has made a difference to how I approach my nursing role improving patient care and health outcomes. I still have another  year to go, but I have to admit that so far, it has given me more confidence in my role as a nurse.

"I would definitely encourage my colleagues to apply."
